To mark its designation as a European Capital of Culture this year, Liverpool is mounting several exhibitions, among them Art in the Age of Steam on view at the Walker Art Gallery until August 10. The show will then be seen at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri, from September 13 to January 18, 2009. Containing one hundred paintings, photographs, and prints and drawings from 1830 to 1960, the exhibition examines how artists in Europe and North America responded to the extraordinary impact that steam trains had on the landscape and on society.
