THE UNITED STATES has signed a repatriation agreement with Vietnam to deport legal permanent residents who have committed aggravated felonies. Nearly 8,000 Vietnamese Americans have been issued deportation notices, and according to ICE officials, 1,500 people will be immediately affected. Under immigration law, an aggravated felony can refer to a number of crimes, including DUIs and shoplifting, and it does not matter if the person has already been imprisoned and released for the crime.
