Beijing and Las Vegas, Nev.-based China Holdings last week announced several biomass-to-power projects in China, tapping what it calls "CAPS" technology combining both gasification and pyrolysis.
Instead of the common practice of open field burning of ag wastes, straw and such wastes could be used to generate "green" electricity in China, the company said.
"By 2010, China will have between 350 million tons to 370 million tons of unused straw. If this huge amount of straw is used for power generation, it would represent an additional 450 billion KwH of electricity," the company said.
