A startup U.K. company with a scaleable gas-to-liquids technology intends to deliver a skid-mounted pilot plant to Petrobras in late 2009 or 2010 for testing in offshore oil exploration.
CompactGTL's technology aims to convert gas associated with offshore and remote oil drilling into synthetic crude that can be fed into crude oil transport and storage.
The company is counting on demand for its system because flaring is practically forbidden, gas reinjection sometimes can damage a well and offshore pipeline systems often are too expensive.
