Paul Goldstein, a professor at Stanford Law School, is considered an outstanding scholar on copyright law. The second edition of his work was published in 1995, so this third edition is an important revision of copyright law over the past decade. Goldstein defines his work as "depict[ing] both the forest and the trees of copyright law in the United States." For this edition, he made major revisions in the text on the doctrines of misuse and secondary liability, added new sections on copyright's intersection with bankruptcy and antitrust law, and included international law influences that derive from United States participation in the Berne Convention (1989) and the World Trade Organization (1995).
