The city of Miami's recent change in zoning laws to remove Port of Miami River protections in favor of waterfront condo development has met opposition from the staff of the South Florida Regional Planning Council.
By removing the designation of "port" from the Miami River element of the city's comprehensive land-use plan, as commissioners voted to do last month, the city has violated the Strategic Regional Policy Plan for South Florida, according to a report by staff members of the South Florida Regional Planning Council.
