I write this letter regarding a very lengthy letter to the editor that was published by TNA in your March 3, 2008 issue, by Ray Jensen of South Bend, Indiana, about a review of atheist Richard Dawkins' book The God Delusion.
What disturbs me about Mr. Jensen most is his problem with, and willingness to agree with Dawkins about, the doctrine of "original sin," stating that "biblically it is absurd," and then bringing up the claim that those who "buy" into this idea quote Psalm 51:5 as the only proof. This is not true!
No, the Bible doesn't use the words "original sin" to describe sin, just as the word "Trinity," is not used to describe the Godhead but that doesn't make it any less true. May I remind Mr. Jensen that it is because of the "original sin" committed by our first parents Adam and Eve (Genesis Ch. 3) that the punishment of sin and death came into this world. It is why we are all in need of salvation and why Christ died on the cross as a blood sacrifice and atonement for our sins!
Paul states so in Romans, especially Chapter 5, where it says for instance in verses 12, 14-15: "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin: and so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned.... Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them ...
