Julie Cooper's letter Who will care for nurses in last month's journal prompted me to recall the late and early roster when I started nursing some 23 years ago.

Nurses at that time also suffered the lack of sleep that exacerbated the stresses of nursing with high case loads and pressure to perform. I was lucky enough to be nursing in a country town and lived only lo minutes away from work.
