With every pleat pressed and every lock moussed to perfection, stars may look immaculate, but what goes on behind closed doors? At a Cinema Society screening, Wilhelmina's fortieth-anniversary event, and a party at the Sundance Film Festival, we asked celebrities whether they're neat freaks--or total slobs.

Some freely admitted to being less than tidy. "I live in hotel rooms, so I don't fold the towels up. I throw them on the floor," says Fergie. "When I go home, I have to watch that." Others confessed to a compulsive streak. "I can't even think straight if things aren't clean," says Keri Russell.

Several celebrities offered a theory on why they're so neat. Madonna credited her husband and his astrological sign: "There is not a lot of messy in our house. He's a Virgo, so we're both very organized." Matthew McConaughey says tight quarters require him to maintain order: "I live in a small trailer," he says. "You can have only one of everything." And some stars know they need help ...
