Gams, hams, stems, pins--there are an awful lot of slang terms for women's legs, considering that they've been visible to the world for less than a century. A look at the numbers behind these most shapely of body parts.
1.4: Number of times the length of the upper body a perfectly proportioned woman's leg is, as determined by a study published in the journal Body Image.
1990: Year Julia Roberts said, in the movie Pretty Woman, "Did I mention my leg is 44 inches from hip to toe? So basically we are talking about 88 inches of therapy wrapped around you for the bargain price of $3,000."
2008: Year a study from Wrokclaw University in Poland found that women as well as men prefer longer legs in mates.
