ITEA's Board of Directors has been monitoring discussion regarding a potential name change for the profession at their school's educational setting, on electronic venues, and at selected conferences. The preliminary information-gathering process generated Board discussion of trends and issues for the profession. The discussion led to action (November, 2007) by then-President Andy Stephenson, DTE to create a Task Force charged with creating a potential name-change analysis to be used for Board discussion. That paper was created by then-President-Elect Dr. Len S. Litowitz, DTE. Resulting Board discussion (February, 2008) led to the creation of a survey that was sent electronically to 2,347 ITEA voting members (March, 2008). Voting members include professional members and active life members of the association. A total of 829 members responded, which was a response rate of 35%.
The survey information will be used in future decision-making sessions that will include Board strategic discussion items and the Board's strategic planning meeting, planned for July, 2008. It is expected that the data will be referenced in numerous discussions by members of the profession as this topic is further analyzed.
It is important to note that any potential ITEA name change would involve a bylaws change, requiring a vote by professional and active life members. Therefore, the survey results do not mean that the name of the association will be changed--bylaws changes must be approved by 2/3 of...
