WHEN ANAHEIM'S ADAM Kennedy hit three home runs in the fifth and deciding game of the American League Championship Series against the Twins October 13, he joined only four other players to have accomplished that feat in the postseason.

Babe Ruth (who did it twice), George Brett and Reggie Jackson were all home-run-hitting household names. Even Bob Robertson, who hit three for Pittsburgh in the 1971 League Championship Series, was no slouch at the plate, having hit 26 home runs during the regular season that year and 27 the year before.

Kennedy, though, is a player depended on by his teammates for countless contributions, but not in the form of home runs. ...
