Publishers sue US university over copyright

Three publishing companies have filed a lawsuit to stop Georgia State University infringing their copyright.
Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press and Sage Publications allege "pervasive, flagrant and ongoing" infringement of their copyright. The Association of American Publishers (AAP) is supporting their legal action.
The publishers say that professors, supported by other members of university staff, are systematically providing students with digital copies of course texts, without obtaining the permission of the rights holder, through e-course services and departmental web pages.
The lawsuit says the unauthorised distribution has continued in spite of repeated attempts to reach an amicable solution without going to court. The publishers are not seeking any financial compensation.
