It's on the system, but nobody knows where

Only 8% of companies have a dedicated search tool that lets staff look for information across their company's systems, according to a survey of 200 workers in the City of London.

The face-to-face survey, carried out by Loewy for enterprise search vendor Sinequa, asked workers about the availability of information tools in their companies.

Nearly half said there had been up to 10 occasions in the past month when not having access to the right information had impaired their performance, while 59% described the tools for searching their own information systems as poor or very poor.

"If you multiply that, and think about it in terms of wasted time, wasted opportunity, reinventing the wheel and staff frustration, it's quite sobering," said Colin Hadden, country manager for Sinequa.
