TAIPEI, May 1 Asia Pulse - The government has been making efforts to stabilize commodity prices, with special consideration for the disadvantaged, Premier Chang Chun-hsiung said Wednesday.
Chang made the remarks at a ceremony held at the Council of Labor Affairs to commend outstanding laborers.
The premier commented that consumer prices in Taiwan are relatively stable, compared with other countries, although there has been a surge due to the global impact of increasing oil prices.
The government's efforts are also reflected in Taiwan's economic development, Chang said, noting that Taiwan enjoyed a 4.1 per cent economic growth rate from 2000-2007, higher than the world average of 3.2 per cent.
Last year's economic growth rate was 5.73 per cent, with 910,000 job opportunities created, Chang said, adding that last year's unemployment rate of 3.9 per cent was the lowest in the last seven years.
