Blogs have been credited with showcasing fresh writing and blamed for the culture of snark. We asked Sarah Boxer, author of Ultimate Blogs: Masterworks From the Wild Web (Vintage), about the best the blogosphere has to offer.

What makes a good blog? At its best, the writing is wild and uncensored in a way that newspapers or books just aren't. The result can be funny, chummy, and conversational. For instance, the girls who write the fashion blog Go Fug Yourself are nasty and sisterly. They are hilariously mean in a "we're just being helpful" way.
