I am sorry. I don't get your position on supporting Michael Vick ("Why Black People Support Michael Vick," colorlines.com Sept./Oct. 2007). Yes, we must, and I do, work to stop the over incarceration of people of color. I have worked for years to overturn California's racist three strikes law, to stop the spread of our obese prison industrial complex. I have been to hearing after hearing where the California legislature has tried to take control of the out of control wardens who lay off prison teachers and hire more guards who are not authorized in the budget. I have been to hearings on the deaths and child abuse in CYA. Finally, the federal courts took over our failed prison health system. We formed the Justice Reform Coalition here in Sacramento where we have had an out of control sheriff's department run our jails badly. We had a series of mysterious jail "suicides."
