Stripes, a look that fashion has generally come to expect from the often-nautical resort collections, came bravely ashore on the runways this spring. Here, a trend reserved mainly for boating and/or menswear was suddenly making headlines in a season when flowers rule: At Proenza Schouler, jackets striped two ways were layered over banded long-sleeve T-shirts; Chloe's multicolor diagonal versions graced gentle chiffon skirts and dresses; and all-American red-white-and-blues covered boleros and blazers at Chanel. A jailbird--cum--circus clown stripe at Ann Demeulemeester was so beautifully draped and executed in a suit, we're expecting to see women wear it both day and night.
