Byline: Meirav Devash PHOTOGRAPHED BY REGAN CAMERON
Whether handpicked by the florist, made of silk, or crafted from diamonds, hair accessories are in full bloom for spring.
Y ou don't need to go to San Francisco to wear flowers in your hair. The spring runways were filled with blooms of all shapes, sizes, and colors that had one thing in common: a carefree attitude inspired by the Haight-Ashbury Bohemians. "Don't arrange the hair around the flower--that's what a hairdresser would do," says hairstylist Bob Recine. "When you perfect beauty, you sacrifice charm." Hairstylist Orlando Pita likes the way "you can play with color and can get away with things you can't get away with in bows and ribbons. Plus, flowers can soften pulled-back, severe hair and make long, loose hair even more romantic." For a refined effect, choose elegant flowers like orchids and roses rather than anything "too hippie or sweet, like daisies or baby's breath," Recine says, and reserve flowers for weekends and evenings. If you go the fake route, stick to silk or something that's obviously ersatz, like plastic or rhinestones. With hair this beautifully effortless, maybe you'll even feel as relaxed as those original Bohemians .
"A cluster of small flowers can look a little too bridal, so stick with one or two larger ones instead," Pita says.
Petal Pushers
Flowers have been blossoming on both the runway and the red carpet. Each of these bouquets makes our A-list. (Notice the prevalence of white flowers, which are easier to wear than vivid color.)
