When sport and style attempt to merge, there is so much room for error. Witness the all-in-one ski suit--something only Kate Moss can pull off. Here's how to minimize your chance of looking like an amateur or (shudder) a ski bunny.
Lighten up. Ski gear is now made from fabric so advanced that a thin shell offers the same insulation as those big down jackets we used to wear. Go for a soft-shell jacket by Prada, Moncler, or Lasse Kjus, a Norwegian brand. They're tapered at the waist and fitted through to the hips with just enough pocket space for sunscreen, lip balm, and money. All of that said, one of this season's biggest trends is a short, puffy jacket with a hood--people wear them skiing and then at home with jeans.
Bottoms up. The most stylish ski pants are made from lightweight, waterproof Gore-Tex and should drape rather than feel stiff. Without question, Prada makes the best ones, followed closely by Matador. They have a low waist, a straight leg with a zip at the hem, and a snow cuff inside to keep your feet dry.
