A BEAUTIFUL MIND

What an unexpected delight it was to find Jennifer Connelly on your November cover ["Dark Victory," by Jonathan Van Meter, photographed by Mario Testino]! I knew she was someone special to look out for when I first saw her in Labyrinth so many years ago. The awe she expresses for her children is refreshing in a day when so many movie stars seem to be such a hot mess of narcissism and neuroses. She appears to approach her work in an intellectual and pragmatic way, which makes it so easy to be a fan of hers. It's also nice that her face doesn't stare out at us week after week from tabloids while we're in line buying groceries.

HEAD CASE

I want to thank Elizabeth Weil for stopping me from becoming an Alice Waters cooking maniac and saving my family from a lot of torture [Up Front, November]. When I read the article "Top Chef," I had two of Ms. Waters's books and was on the hunt for anything else she had written. Waters is very inspiring, so I can understand why Weil's husband set out on such an extraordinary mission--although I would never have the stomach to make headcheese. God bless her children for trying it!
