On a fall afternoon Lisa Phillips, director of the New Museum, is touring her new site, a $64 million construction project for which she has been both visionary and nursemaid, financial chivvier and doorknob inspector. Today, for the first time, the exterior of the building, a series of asymmetrically stacked aluminum boxes designed by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of the Japanese practice SANAA, has been revealed; its final panels are in place, its cladding is unwrapped.
