One third of mothers slip down the career ladder, according to a study published in Economic Journal, the journal of the Royal Economic Society in England.

The study found that one-third of female corporate managers move down the career ladder after having a child. Two-thirds of them took clerical positions, with the rest moving into other lower-skilled jobs.
