I had returned to the Duke Diet & Fitness Center (DFC) in Durham, North Carolina, in late July, having regained all the weight I had lost.

But on August 21, during a three-day personalized health program called Immersion at the newly opened Duke Integrative Medicine Center (Duke IM), part of the Duke University Health System, I stepped on an electronic scale at a 6:00 a.m. weigh-in and discovered-in a "Eureka!" moment-that I had "gained lightness" by dropping 30 pounds in the previous three weeks.
