Graduates of women's colleges are more likely to earn advanced degrees than those from other liberal arts colleges, according to data recently released by the Women's College Coalition.
More than half (53%) of women's college graduates earned a graduate degree compared with 38% of women from other liberal arts colleges, according to the group's recent addition to its longitudinal study. That number drops to just 28% for women graduates of public flagship universities.
Graduating from a women's school seems to bring other perks as well. Compared with graduates of other liberal arts colleges and public flagship universities, graduates of women's colleges were significantly more likely to report that their school helped them learn to solve problems, think analytically and write effectively.
Such data, especially presented in colored bar graphs, will help the coalition make cases for its schools. Sweet Briar College VA admissions dean Kurt Huus said that whenever women's colleges show an advantage, it's a good thing. "I get jazzed ...
