California State University at Fresno has chosen to appeal a judge's ruling that awarded $6.6 million to former women's basketball coach Stacy Johnson-Klein.

Johnson-Klein originally won a record $19.1 million jury award from the school in December. However, Judge Donald Black then gave her the option of accepting a reduced amount of $6.6 million or facing a new trial. She accepted.

Fresno State is appealing to "preserve our rights and all of our options," said Dawn Theodora, its lawyer.
