A fixture on the independent R & B and jazz scenes for the past 15 years, Ledisi Young has built a career on her versatility as a vocalist and her refusal to be categorized stylistically. Carrying a reputation for transcendent, electric live performance, Young slowly but surely built a national and international following through touring, word-of-mouth support and theatrical work (notably, 11 years as a featured member of the popular San Francisco cabaret Beach Blanket Babylon and recent workshops of the Broadway version of The Color Purple.
