A vitally important skill to have in the work world is the ability to estimate. All through a career this skill comes in handy, but most often it is used to help develop budgets and ballpark estimates for what something might cost. As adults we use it often to gauge our monthly and yearly expenditures. In this challenge, students will use it to take a look at how they will spend the money they make in a lifetime and hopefully, from this activity, develop a strategy for maximizing their savings.
Some Assumptions
This challenge is predicated on having the students identify and learn how to estimate the costs for living, seeing what they amount to over a 40-year working career, and then comparing them to what is left for savings.
To make this exercise relevant, all students will start with a base set of assumptions:
* Each student will marry and have two children for a total of four in the family.
