Tesco is preparing to launch a three month trial of electronic shelf- edge labelling in late July or early August,.
The retailer has ordered 2,500 EPOP units from supplier ZBD, for installation in mainstream dry goods areas. The units have previously been used, in smaller numbers, in the delicatessen departments of two Tesco stores.
The wireless screens can be updated remotely, and conserve energy by using power only to change their displays, not to maintain them. Small watch batteries are expected to last for five years in typical use.
