VIENTIANE, April 1 Asia Pulse - Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged Greater Mekong Sub-region countries to strengthen cooperation and turn transport corridors into economic ones to aid economic growth and fight poverty.
The Prime Minister made the statement while chairing a debate on trade and transport at the third Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Summit that opened in Vientiane on March 31.
PM Dung outlined the need to increase internal integration in sub-regional and regional development and build harmonious institutions in line with legal regulations.
He also discussed GMS countries collaboration with Asian Development Bank (ADB) in implementing prioritised projects and mapping out policies that facilitate partnerships and investment in the region.
There is also a need for the GMS countries to focus on solving social affairs, health issues and environmental protection, PM Dung said.
PM Dung also joined in wide-range debates aimed at boosting GMS cooperation for prosperity and sustainable growth.
