NEW DELHI, April 1 Asia Pulse - London-based International Grains Council has raised the projection of world's foodgrains production by 1.25 per cent to 1,694 million tons in 2008-09, saying despite very high prices, the total area under foodgrains may not increase on strong competition from oilseeds and other crops.
"Despite very high prices, the total grain area is unlikely to increase because of strong competition from oilseeds and other crops," an IGC Grain Report said.
Total foodgrains production is projected to surge to 1,694 million tons during 2008-09, as against 1,662 million tons in the last year, it said.
