ROAD TRAIN 
 
   the driver says 
   for your convenience there is a toilet 
   at the rear of the coach that is not operational 
   and when we reach the burnt plain 
   sit back and enjoy the Monaro Scenery 
   despite air conditioning we can still feel 
   heat pressing the hiss of the brakes 
   being released is not quick enough 
   to stop a road train passing we see dirty fleece 
   on the backs of the sheep piled in 
   pushing through the slats 
   how far have they come how far must they go 
   lucky those that slip beneath their fellows 
   and die of the crush before 
   they reach the abattoir 
   smell the blood as they are pushed inexorably forward ...
