All citizens must consider whether they wish to endorse the burial of a great and civilized nation, or whether they wish to halt a process which they never asked or voted for, or were even asked whether they wanted, which has brought about misery, decadence and ignorance, and which threatens to abolish one of the happiest, fairest and kindest societies which has ever existed in this imperfect world.
--Peter Hitchens
The Abolition of Britain
Author Peter Hitchens speaks of the present state of affairs in Great Britain today, where the people are experiencing the effects of living under the dictates of the European Union. Their beloved country is suffering the loss of its own governance in the areas of energy, trade, competition, agriculture, the environment, social policy, public health, employment policy, immigration, criminal justice, and foreign affairs. Indeed, their country is being submerged into the European Union, without the approval or will of the people. Existing for 900 years, with centuries of independence and sovereignty under its belt, it is hard to understand how it could have come to this point.

The transition of Great Britain's ruling power has occurred over time and mostly through deception and stealth. Initially, the people were asked to support a Common Market that would bring about "free trade," leading to prosperity and more jobs. But, as they have awakened to discover, the real purpose was to gradually give the Common Market and its future manifestations including the present-day European Union more and more power, until it would become a supranational government of Europe. Now, too late, they realize that the EU imposes under international law a newly defined territory and citizenry, with its own legislature, legal system and supreme court, defense capabilities, heads of state, flag, national anthem, national day (May 9), and most consequentially, a new constitution.
The process toward complete integration into the EU is far advanced for Great Britain and for the 26 other participating countries. The death knell sounds for Great Britain as the apparent death and burial of a once great and civilized nation approaches. But what about the United States? Could our country one day be facing a similar end? Presently, the United States is following the same trajectory that Britain followed but with two differences: the British are much further along on the trajectory to losing their country, and Americans can learn from what is now happening in Europe, and in particular Great Britain, and profit from its unfolding tragedy.
