Life these days seems to move forever faster and faster, prompting most people to wish it to slow down; author Vince Poscente, however, wishes it to go even faster. Why? The better to get your obligations done, and still have time to enjoy life!
Just after college, Poscente was told by a fortune teller in Singapore that he would be dead by age 40--although he knew the fortune teller was a sham, he decided to live as much as he could by 40, convinced he couldn't die before then. He took up sky diving, bungee jumping, ice luge ... then he was introduced to speed skiing. At age 26, he decided he would compete in the next Olympics, just four years away, not worrying about the little fact he hadn't ever skied competitively--or even really skied before that winter. At age 30 he found himself in the gold medal round of the Olympics.
Poscente realized that if the world is moving faster, creating a "24/7, Crackberry culture," why not go with the flow? Get everything done faster, and you'll have time to relax at home, engage in your hobbies or spend time with your family. Embrace the new way of life!
Another area of improvement Poscente touches on is streamlining. "The goal--for individuals and organizations-is to eliminate drag, to be sleek, to be aerodynamic," he states in the book. "When we achieve an aerodynamic life or business, we've freed ourselves from clutter, the detritus that can slow us down and keep us from focusing on our path and our environment." As everyone knows, the less clutter in life, the easier it is to find things, the quicker you get things done ... and then you are free to enjoy your extra minutes of the day in peace.
