In the December 24 issue of THE NEW AMERICAN ("Torturing the Definition of Torture"), you call waterboarding a form of drowning, and in a previous issue you said it brought a subject close to drowning and then the victim is revived. You could not be more wrong, and it is irresponsible to make such claims without doing your research.

The process of waterboarding is done by laying a subject on his back, tilting his body so that his feet are higher than his head, and then dripping water up into his nasal cavity. The subject's nasal cavity then fills up with water giving the subject the feeling of drowning, without doing any actual harm. There is no actual drowning.
