BANGKOK, March 3 Asia Pulse - Investment in debt instruments was projected to increase marginally after the Bank of Thailand (BoT) scrapped the 30 per cent capital controls on foreign inflows from Monday March 3, said a senior Thai investment executive.
Nattapol Chavalitcheevin, president of the Thai Bond Market Association, said the removal of the capital controls, imposed by the BoT in December 2006, would not greatly attract people to invest in the debt instruments market. Citing a BoT report conducted in 2005, Mr Nattapol said most inflows were invested in the Thai equity market which was as high as Bt1. 5 trillion (US$49.480 billion), while investment in the debt instruments market was approximately Bt130 billion only.
