SEOUL, March 3 Asia Pulse - The government said Friday that it is considering creating a new venture capital fund dedicated to helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The newly created Ministry of Knowledge-based Economy said the government, large conglomerates and medium-sized businesses could jointly set aside funds to create the capital fund.
At present the country's 30 largest conglomerates already help certain SMEs and this practice is encouraged by the government, but the program is limited in scale and centered on companies that supply parts or work closely with big firms.
If a venture fund is set up, more money could be given to SMEs with growth potential.
