TAIPEI, March 3 Asia Pulse - Taiwan's Far Eastern Air Transport (FAT) (TAIEX:5605) ended its service on the route between Hualien County in eastern Taiwan and the southern port city of Kaohsiung Saturday, due to the low passenger load factor, according to one of the company's staff members at Hualien Airport.
The carrier had experienced a long term deficit on operating the route, which has been affected by the increasing development of the railway and highway systems in eastern Taiwan.
According to the staff member, the route's passenger load factor must reach 70 per cent to cover the flight cost, however, the load factor had continued lingering between 30-50 per cent over the past few years.
