SEOUL, March 3 Asia Pulse - South Korean credit card firms saw their combined earnings rise 14.5 per cent in 2007 from a year earlier due mainly to one-off gains, the financial watchdog said Sunday.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), the country's five credit card firms logged a combined net profit of 2.48 trillion won (US$2.64 billion) in 2007, compared with 2.16 trillion won the previous year.
"The 2007 earnings rose due to one-off factors, but their operating profit plus bad debt expenses, a barometer of profitability, fell," the watchdog said in a statement.
