Good Advice for Doctors
The threat of litigation has destroyed the patient-doctor relationship and severely tarnished the medical profession. Philip K. Howard's guest editorial "The Death of Common Sense" speaks to every doctor who has ever worried about being sued or ordered unnecessary tests hoping to decrease that risk (Jan. 1, 2003, p. 6).
I applaud OB.GYN. NEWS for bringing the editorial genius of Mr. Howard to its readers.
I have been a fan of his since reading his book "The Death of Common Sense." This book should be required reading for doctors, especially for those tempted to believe that politicians and more government can fix our broken health care system.
Mr. Howard's most recent book is "The Collapse of the Common Good." The only way we can restore our once-proud profession is to understand the forces that are currently working to ruin it.
