New value-added services are the lifeblood of the printing industry, and will become even more critical in the decade to come. Graphic arts service providers need to offer more than ink on paper because their customers' businesses are demanding it. Ignoring value-added services--consulting, mailing, fulfillment, prepress services, and variable-information printing--will be perilous, as more and more printers develop these nontraditional competencies to be more competitive. Printers who have begun to adopt these services already are seeing key benefits, including improved customer satisfaction, increased profitable revenue, and an expanded customer base.
