Budget treadmills that work for walkers.(Trends)(Product/service evaluation)(Brief article)
Treadmills for serious runners can cost $4,000, but can the rest of the human race get away with paying $500 to $1,000? We tested six motorized, folding treadmills in that price range.
The best, the Epic View, has a relatively long belt (57 inches) and works for most runners and walkers. Its console has a built-in LCD television that provides a good image.
Among the very good models are the NordicTrack, New Balance, and ProForm. The NordicTrack is notable for "iFit" cards that slip into a slot in the console, change the belt's speed and incline according to trainer-designed workouts, and provide encouraging words through the treadmill's speakers.
