Buenos Aires -- Light- or laser-based therapies are not appropriate as standalone treatments for acne, but they may be beneficial as adjunct therapy, Dr. Diane Berson said at the 21st World Congress of Dermatology.

For some patients with acne, light- or laser-based therapies improve skin texture and early scarring. "The traditional medications--antibiotics, topical retinoids, topical benzoyl peroxides--are still going to be the standard for treating patients, but this is something we can offer them in addition," said Dr. Berson of Cornell University, New York.
