TAIPEI, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - The Consumers' Foundation has discovered that one out of four samples of herbal medicine from China contained Western medicine through inspections carried out in 2007, the foundation's president, Cheng Jen-hung, said Thursday.
The foundation inspected 165 samples provided by consumers last year. The samples were placed in different categories, with herbal medicine from China one of the categories, Cheng said.
Cheng said that overall, 15.8 per cent of the herbal medicine inspected was found to contain Western medicine, down slightly from the 17.3 per cent for 2006. The foundation has conducted the inspections every year since 1992.
The foundation also found that 24 per cent of samples claimed to have been bought by "trusted persons" and 17 per cent of samples under the category of having been acquired as gifts were found to contain Western medicine, Cheng went on.
