SYDNEY, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - The Australian sharemarket opened higher this morning following New York's surge overnight.
At 1015 AEDT, all three Australian indices were up, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 by 50.3 points to 5,700.6, and the All Ordinaries by 50.0 points to 5,747.0.
On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the March share price index futures contract was up 52 points at 5,677.
Michael Heffernan, senior client advisor at Austock Securities, said he was confident that the positive mood of the market would carry through the day.
"People are much happier when the market's up and really like seeing green on the screen," Mr Heffernan said. "In fact there is enough green to sustain Green Senator Bob Brown across all sectors.
