JAKARTA, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - The Indonesian government on Thursday asked ministries and state agencies to postpone or even slash their expenditures by up to 15 per cent of the budgets allocated to them as part of efforts towards the 2008 State Budget.
The 15 per cent reduction would be taken from the total ceiling of the budget allocated to each of the ministries and state agencies as part of efforts to "share the pain", Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said following a meeting between President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and president directors of a number of state enterprises at the State Palace here.
"Each minister is free to select which activities are low on the list of their priorities and subject to cost reduction. I think all ministers have their own criteria to do so. But there will be guidelines on the budget items such as operational costs, wages, and routine maintenance costs which are not subject to cost ...
