SYDNEY, Jan 31 Asia Pulse - The Australian dollar opened higher today, gaining one US cent in quick order after the US Federal Reserve cut a key US interest rate by half a percentage point.

At 0700 AEDT, the Australian dollar was trading at .8995/99, up from yesterday's close of 0.8977/83.

Overnight, the domestic currency traded between a low of .8861 and a high of 0.8997.
