DIANA AND HER CHILDREN attend their first year at Birch Family Camp, a summer retreat that supports Black and Latino families whose members are HIV-positive. Initially, Diana (who asked that her last name not be used) was hesitant about attending. Who else would be there? Would she be judged about her family's HIV status? How would her children interact?

Her fears were eased as she joined 60 families for a week in Putnam Valley, New York. Her children went fishing and swimming while she joined other parents in workshops to discuss how they might disclose their family's HIV/AIDS status to their children and relatives.
