EU BUDGET : OLAF-LED INVESTIGATION REVEALS 7.5 MILLION EURO FRAUD.
An international crime ring involving EU pre-accession funds has beenauncovered byathe competent prosecutor's offices of Bulgaria, Germany and Switzerland and their respective national authorities inaclose cooperation with the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF). In a press release, published by OLAF on 14 February, the financial impact of the fraud is estimated at 7.5 million.
The joint operation has been ongoing for six months. Evidence was discovered, which pointed to possible irregularities in the EU-funded SAPARD (Special Accession Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development) programme. The companies that were investigated were involved in a fraudulent carousel …
