After spending a day moving furniture and personal items from a rented house in Brunswick, Georgia, Leah Whitman and two housemates held one last party in the house.
At about 1:30 a.m. on September 3, the three housemates and two other partygoers sat on a porch and watched two men walk up and down the street. They surmised that the two men were deciding which house to rob. They surmised correctly--to a point. They correctly guessed that the two walking up and down the street were going to rob someone, but they had no idea that they would be the ones getting robbed. They were surprised "when the two would-be robbers jumped onto the porch and pulled a gun," reported the Brunswick News.
The two robbers herded all of the partygoers to the back of the house, frisked them for money, made them take off their shoes, and stole their cellphones. Then the robbers demanded their car keys, and one robber went out and looted their cars, even taking the pennies that were lying in a console.
